Ballina, The Salmon Capital of Ireland, located in the Mayo, is the ideal base for every passionate fisherman in the world. Ballina is renowned as an angling centre, with excellent river, sea and lake waters within easy reach. The famous Ridge Pool in the town is one of the premier tourist attractions in Ireland. A regular visitor to the pool is the former manager of the Irish soccer team, Jack Charlton, who has a holiday home nearby.
The River Moy, which meanders through the beautiful Moy Region, is one of the main rivers for salmon fishing in Ireland. The Moy offers a variety of fishing including top class fly water, spinning and worming and fishing is available to suit all tastes and budgets. Lough Conn and Cullin only a few minutes away from our hotel, offer fantastic brown trout fishing and are renowned for their prolific Mayfly hatches. It is during the Mayfly period that Lough Conn has earned its reputation as one of Ireland's top quality trout lakes.
For the sea angler, North Mayo offers top class boat and shore fishing and up to 34 species of fish have been recorded by anglers. The Moy Estuary, well known location for sea fishing in Ireland, is superb for sea trout fishing and the sea angling headquarters Enniscrone and Killala are within easy reach as well. Belmullet is another sea angler’s haven. A little further to drive, but you will be rewarded with a vast range of species, up to 38 different types of fish were recorded in the rich North Mayo waters. Small lakes such as Derryhick near Foxford and Manulla Lake close to Ballyvarry are ideal for the keen pike angler.
